Effective July 1, 2016 Sarah Barnett will join the Daniel Boone Council staff as Terrora District Executive.
She comes to us from the Great Smoky Mountain Council in Knoxville, TN. She was the STEM Executive that helped STEM Scouts, a new national pilot, get off the ground for the BSA. Sarah is a graduate of The University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Architecture & Design and has history within Scouting. Her background includes being a member in Girl Scouts where she received her Gold Award. While in High School she got involved in her district’s Boy Scout Camp and from there was introduced to Venturing. She became very active in her Venturing Crew and in 2007 received her Silver and Ranger Awards as well as becoming a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. Throughout high school and college her Council’s camp became a second home were she worked or volunteered for 10 years. She has had the opportunity to go to National Camp School for COPE, Aquatics Instructor, and Cub Day Camp. The summer of 2013 she was asked to come back to National Camp School to help teach the Aquatics Instructor section. With her involvement in Scouting and her joy for learning, it was a natural fit that she would be a part of the new STEM Scouts program. Through leadership the last 3 years at the Great Smoky Mountain Council she was able to turn this program from a concept to a reality. She was able to recruit volunteers who helped her start 50 new Lab Units and over 800 new youth. Sarah is excited about getting started here at the Daniel Boone Council and helping grow the Scouting program in our area. She has a wide range of hobbies that include hot air ballooning, photography, design, the outdoors, and of course being by the water. Sarah will be a great asset to the team and we are very excited to have her on board.
